A 52-year-old Riverton man who police described as a transient man was found dead Monday afternoon on the 1100 block of West Main Street. “[The] initial cause of death was speculated as hypothermia, but an autopsy will be performed for a final determination,” the police report states.

Officers were called to the West Main Street address on a report of a deceased individual who wasn’t breathing, found laying under some cardboard boxes in a parking lot. Law enforcement officials said he was found in an area frequented by local homeless people, and there were no visible signs of trauma or struggle. The report suggested the man, whose name has not been released, was trying to stay warm.

The man’s body was transported to the Fremont County coroner for an investigation into the cause of death.
