FREMONT COUNTY – After a thrilling cross country season done and over with there are quite a few local runners that received one of the highest honors given out, the All-State nomination by the Wyoming Coaches Association.

First up, in 3A it should be no surprise that the girls’ State Champion from Saturday’s race (see page B1) is honored with an All-State selection for the second year in a row. Yes, Lander Valley’s Ameya Eddy landed on the list alongside her teammate Blue Blackburn who finished eighth in that same State Championship race on Saturday.

Lander sophomore and state champion Ameya Eddy kept within striking range of Rawlins senior Ryann Smith after the first mile marker in the 3A girls state championship race Saturday in Ethete. Eddy would pull away in the last 1000 meters to win the race by 10 seconds with a time of 19:29. (p/c Carl Cote)

Surprisingly no Lander Valley Tiger made the All-State list on the boys’ side but, not surprisingly, Riverton’s Kaden Chatfield was selected for his second straight year. Lander’s Diego Lobatos could be considered a ‘snub’ but he did get selected last season as a sophomore.

Riverton’s Kaden Chatfield trailed closely behind Owen Burnett Saturday in the 3A boys race in Ethete. Chatfield turned in a time of 17:11 in the championship race earning him ninth place. (p/c Carl Cote)

In the 2A division there was one name that has been spotted near the top of result lists all year that was honored with an All-State selection: St. Stephens’ Nehemiah Divers. The senior PR’d just a few weeks ago and finished tenth on Saturday in the 2A boys’ race at Ethete.

On the girls’ side of 2A it was Thermopolis’ Ruth Johnson who also added her name to the list after finishing third in the 2A girls’ race behind the winner Mallory Jones out of Moorcroft and Marilee Williams out of Saratoga.

The rest of the All-State selections are available on WyoToday.com.

Congratulations to all the runners selected and good luck with your future endeavors in distance running!
