Last Tuesday, they were treated to a ghost of a tale, although Casper proved more friendly than your average ghoul. This coming Tuesday, Lurch, Gomez, Mortica and friends will entertain audiences for free, and on October 18, “E.T.” will put the extra in terrestrial, because Movie Madness is back at the Riverton Branch Library (RBL).
After a bit of a hiatus due to Covid, organizations are excited to restart more in-person events, and RBL’s free Movie Madness is one in a series of fun activities for families and kids. Movie Madness will be held every Tuesday in October in the Children’s Theatre at 4 p.m., a perfect after-school treat for children and adults of all ages. And, it’s an opportunity for a bit of Halloween mischief, with kids able to break one of the age-old rules of library etiquette: Snacks are welcome for this viewing party.
“We were excited to do something fun again,” RBL Youth Services Lead Librarian Kirbie Despain explained of the event. “We’re trying to get more people in the library, and we basically looked at our movie catalogue to find something that’s not always shown everywhere else.”
On Tuesday after school, youngsters browsed the colorful sections of RBL’s offerings, then migrated to the “Casper” showing in the theater. Despain explained that RBL has a crowd of teens and tweens who frequent the library, and they do a great job of interacting with the younger kids. But Movie Madness isn’t just for kids — grown ups are welcome, too.
Check out Movie Madness every Tuesday in October at 4 p.m. at RBL, with “Addam’s Family” the animated film on Oct. 11, Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster hit “E.T.” on Oct. 18, and “Hotel Transylvania” featuring Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, and Andy Samberg on Oct. 25.
Get puttin’ with Mario Oct. 10
Another offering for all ages will be held on October 10, when RBL will host a fundraiser featuring two nine-hole courses of putt putt golf with a Mario theme after hours beginning at 6:30 p.m. RBL’s Mario Putt Putt Fundraiser will raise money for new children’s department video game systems, and tickets will be offered for $2 each or $6 per family.
For more information about events, call 307-856-3556 or stop by RBL. Library hours are Mondays from 1-5 p.m.; Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and closed over the weekend.
