Riverton – The Livestock have all been tucked in at the 110th Fremont County Fair. The deadline was Monday and hopefully, all made it on time. The judges are ready and the competition will be tough this year in all categories. The only notable change is the conspicuous absence of the poultry show that had to be canceled due to concerns over the Avian Flu that was discovered earlier in the spring  in other regions of Wyoming. However, because of safety concerns, it was decided that the show, sale and transportation of foul was best avoided for the year, at least for publicly held events.

The market steers, lambs, hogs and any other creatures of agriculture are scheduled throughout the week and those schedules are posted for all to see on the Fair website.

Some of the best events are those that all can participate in. There is a hotdog eating contest as well as a pie eating contest this week. Word has it that one of our own, Shawn O’Brate, our sports writer extraordinaire, will be competing in the Hotdog event and feels that he has a chance. The several rodeo events will captivate and entertain as the Riverton Roundup began Monday night and continued on Tuesday. The much anticipated “Ranch Rodeo” takes place Wednesday night while “The Timmy Challenge” bull riding is Thursday. All the Rodeo events start at 7:30 P.M. each night.

The motorsport events are crowd favorites and include “Figure 8 racing” and the Monster Truck Tour.  So much family entertainment and without breaking the bank if you purchase a mega pass.

Please enjoy, learn, and be inspired by the displays of homemade goods and displays that are grown, or somehow created by your neighbors here in Fremont County. Make no mistake, you will be impressed with what you see and only requires you to walk through the displays at your leisure.
